The Flowers Of Istanbul

Summer means that they are in full bloom!

The last time we were in Istanbul it was fall/winter. Although we were surprised by how sunny and warm the weather was, we surely didn’t see flowers around the city like we have this time around.

These days they are growing on many surfaces and even out of cracks in the sidewalks like the one below was. We aren’t sure what this is and if the melons become edible, but there it was, just coming out of the sidewalk.

Please forgive me as I’m not focused on finding names for some of these mystery plants.

These stunning flowers dangle from vines that are coming off of many buildings in the city. They are bright and vibrant red/orange and they always make me smile when I see them.

The city plants many flowers that grow in the city parks and along the roadways. These marigolds went on for what felt like miles as we walked along the beachside park the other day.

These fluffy bunches of pink are on a tree. We also see these surrounding mosques and many public areas like parks. The flowers are quite small and we just love the intricate ruffles that they have.

Large bunches of bougainvillea fall from many structures in the city. These clusters were enormous and so vibrant! Notice that they match the plant pot on the sidewalk? I don’t know if that was intentional or not.
