supernatural curls by Sophia Ordaz

you forgot your hair in my brush. floating over the bathroom tiles,
suspended in a reverie, I notice it in the morning
during the serene percolation of my coffee brewing.
your supernatural curls wrap tightly round the teeth
of my brush much like the way your essence
presently coils up for its daily nap in my mind.
i’m in church, my eyes worshiping that circuitous nexus
of unsaid things between you and I. you left them here
for me to divine. I know because here are your curls in my brush
telling me so, entwining your DNA with mine, casting
spells on my natural order. it snuck up on us —
didn’t it? an epiphany so undeniably consuming I can’t
believe I hadn’t seen it surging sooner, a blue squiggle on the brink
of the Earth, now a massive, unflinching wave. let us praise
these sudden, momentous changes by which something comes from nothing:
the Big Bang or God or whatever the aliens call it,
recognizing the ticklish feeling in your skull as your first high,
discovering a microscopic freckle on the tip of your pink nose.
this must be alchemy, I feel it in my bloodstream.
all our actions led up to this point, unwittingly yet intuitively,
since for a good while now the world has taken on a heaving,
psychedelic quality, moments stretching and shrinking the temporal fabric
of our lives, my neck craning upward, my eyes straining to understand,
the sheer immensity of us dazing, dizzying, dazzling me.

what’s heavy is light, what’s light is holy,
what’s hard is soft, what’s soft has melted.
once damned by words, my mind overflows at its banks.
who has time for useless language,
when there is so much living to be done,
and so much heaven to become.
