What to Remember When You Want to Give Up

Regain your energy and mindset.

A lot of soul-searching has been done in the past and current year. Life became stressful and breakdowns happened often. I questioned where my career was headed, if I had the strength to endure more failure, what I was doing with my life. I gave up, picked myself back up, then gave up again.

It was a vicious cycle, one I can’t say I’m entirely over. But, I’ve found ways to weather the dark days. By remembering these simple yet empowering things, I’m able to keep going, no matter how hard it gets. I hope it can do the same for you, or someone you know.

It’s easy to look at a successful person and feel envious. You want what they have. So, you devour their strategies and apply their techniques to your own. You think, in a short matter of time, you’ll be where they are.

If only things worked that way. Unfortunately, when you look at someone with a lot of accolades, you’re seeing years of hard work. They didn’t become a success overnight. They worked long hours, dedicating every waking moment to their craft.

There is no secret to success. It’s a matter of putting your head down, doing the work, and to keep going. Problems will arise, stress will build, but it’s how you deal with it that determines how far you’ll go. Think in terms of the long-run, not taking shortcuts to get there quicker.

Oh boy, was this a hard lesson I had to learn. After experiencing one rejection after the other, I wanted to hypothetically throw everything I’d built out the window. I was reminded, one email after the next, I could never make writing a career.

Blow after blow, it took its toll. I stepped away; I stopped writing. I soon realized how much of a mistake that was.
