Will AI change the role of UX designers?

If you speak about this subject to other UX designers, almost everyone will tell you that “UX designers can’t be automated because the work is creative by nature, and only humans can do it”. UX and UI designers have been working to follow a standard guideline to create apps. So in a way, we have standardised and have been automating ourselves. Will AI really change the role of UX designers? We can certainly agree that UX and AI go hand in hand. For example, AI needs continuously data, as UX designers. It’s a process where we always have to analyse and test to improve. AI can analyse a large amount of data and quicker than a human. It also understands the results and updates the design. But AI also helps a lot the designer’s work:

Users that wanted to build a website had to say what pattern, what fonts and what colours they needed and write some content and the bot would built it. But if users are not happy about it, there is no way to change it and to change bot’s mind. Not being able to choose did not leave the users very satisfied.

Also, AI won’t be able to help for user interviews, anything that requires research and that ‘human touch’ will be probably safe.

So, do we really benefit from automating our ideas or our work with systems and guidelines? We can say for now that AI can help and assist designers, not replace them. However, we have to be adaptive and flexible with possible changes in the future with the advance of technology.

Also, society seems already dependent on tech. So are we really the ones that control AI or the other way around? I think that robots can help and do repetitive tasks, but humans bring innovation, which would not be possible if we rely just on AI!
