Past Indiscretions

The broken bones of yesterday

heavily upon me weigh

having turned the path I walk

into a deeper, blacker dark

upon my past the gavel falls

and I am led through justice’ halls

my time cut short by yesterday

a moment of forgotten play

slams the cover of my tomb

sounding forth a toll of doom

and what is done stands now forever

as though my countenance does bear

the mark of Cain upon my brow

and I can ne’er escape it now;
